About Dr. Lichtman

Jeff W. Lichtman, MD, PhD is the Jeremy R. Knowles Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and, since April 2024, Dean of Science for Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. His work centers on the connectome — the complete map of neural connections in the brain — including the development of Brainbow imaging and large-volume electron microscopy for circuit reconstruction. He is a co-lead of the Center for High-throughput Integrative Mouse Connectomics (HI-MC), the NIH BRAIN CONNECTS center working to map 10 mm³ of mouse hippocampal tissue at full EM resolution (see the MouseConnects case study).
